SINGAPORE (20 June 2016) – The FA of Singapore (FAS) recently organised a knowledge and information sharing session on football training during Ramadan as part of its regular coach education activities.
Dr. Abdul Rashid Aziz, Head of Strength and Conditioning, Singapore Sports Institute delivered the briefing which was attended by S-League club coaches, trainers, teachers, referees and referee Instructors.
The talk delved into the physiological effects and demands of training and playing during the fasting month of Ramadan based on Dr. Rashid’s research into this topic.
The session provided useful and practical information on how much and when to load the training sessions and also on how to recover when Muslims are in a state of fasting. It also touched on how to maximise training for match performance without compromising fasting obligations since matches are still being played in the evenings in Singapore.
Mohamed Basir, FAS Head of Coach Education, said: “These sessions are organised to meet our specific needs, for example, Ramadan has started and we think that it is crucial for coaches to know the scientific implications of training and playing in a fasted state. So how should we go about training in this month? Dr. Rashid is a leading expert in this and it is only appropriate that we share this information amongst the key industry players.”
Dr. Rashid said: “Optimal training during the Ramadan month is achievable and may even be beneficial.”
