BANGKOK (7 Feb 2016) – The Thai Premier League (TPL) Board have decided to drop the idea of expanding the domestic top flight to 20 teams for the new 2016 season.
The current TPL has 18 teams taking part.
The idea to have 20 teams taking part in the new TP 2016 received widespread oppositions as most felt that it was motivated by the need to save certain ‘favoured’ clubs from being relegated.
As a consequence of this latest obstruction, the TPL Board decided to maintain the 18-team status quo with BEC Tero, Port FC and TOT SC going down to the second-tier League One.
