BANGKOK (25 Jan 2012) – The Thai Premier League 2012 will begin on 17 March this year which will also see the emergence of Buriram United in the top flight.
Buriram PEA, the champions of the Thai Premier League 2011, will merge with the winner of Thai First, Buriram FC to become Buriram United.
The FA of Thailand (FAT) also announced this week that in 2012, the number of registered foreign players will be cut down to five from seven currently.
“Each TPL side will be allowed to have up to five foreign players on their books with a maximum three non-Asian players and one Asian on the pitch at the same time,” said Vichit Yamboonruang, the chairman of the TPL.
The new season will kick off with the King’s Trophy which will see double winners Buriram taking on league runners-up Chonburi FC on 11 March.
