YANGON (19 June 2012) – The Myanmar national Under-22 side had a tough time during their trip to South Korea recently when they lost all their friendly matches. The team under new chief coach Park Sung Hwa spent one month training and playing games against university teams in Korea.
“Myanmar had no way of beating the South Korean teams,” said Sung Hwa. “They were just South Korean university teams but their technique was so different. So it will be tough in the qualifiers.”
Myanmar will be hosting Group G of the AFC Under-22 Asian Cup qualifiers next week (23 June to 3 July 2012) where they will be up against South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines.
In the meantime, the Indonesia U22 side scored a close 1-0 win over local side Persibangga Purbalingga in a friendly that was played at the Goentoer Darjono Stadium.
In the match that was attended by more than 10.000 fans, the team under Aji Santoso scored their only goal of the game in the 48th minute through Fandi Eko, who made good on a cross from Kurniawan.
Indonesia side will be hosting Group E of the AFC U22 Asian Cup qualifiers where they will be up against Australia, Japan, Macau, Singapore and Timor Leste. Their qualifiers which will be played in Pekanbaru will be from 5-15 July 2012.
