MANILA (22 Feb, 2008) – Newly appointed head coach of the Philippines national team Norman Fegidero faces tough days ahead as he look to prepare a competitive team ahead of the Asean Football Championship qualifiers later this year.
This follows the recent 3-0 loss the All-Manila Selection – which is composed mostly of Philippines national team players – suffered at the hands of K-League side Hyundai. Relying on better physical conditioning and technical superiority, the visitors broke a first-half deadlock to score three goals within nine minutes to settle the game as striker Cha Chul-ho grabbed a brace with goals in the 54th and 63rd minute before. Captain Ali Borromeo, who was a beacon of strength for the team in the last edition of the Asean Football Championship, is still recovering from an ACL surgery to his left knee. And Borromeo, who was also the team captain at the 2005 SEA Games in Manila, could not have painted a more desolate picture as he limped out in the 70th minute of the tie. “The conditioning certainly needs to be improved. We know what we have to work on,” said Fegidero afterwards. |
