PHNOM PENH (Sept 28, 2007) – Cambodian Premier League leaders Phnom Penh Empire ended the first round of the league on a thumping note when they thrashed Red Eagle FC 7-0 at the National Olympic Stadium.
A hat-trick from Ajayi Gbenga Samuel (40th, 43rd and 79th minute) ensured Empire the full points following the opening goal from Akpeeze Kenneth in the 23rd minute. An own goal from Red Eagle’s Uk Sokha and a brace from Hok Sochivorn (61st and 64th minute) completed the rout for Empire before they begin the second round of the league next week. In the meantime, second-placed Naga Corp FC kept up the pressure on the new leaders Phnom Empire when they totally out ran Baksey Chamkrong FC 19-0 to maintain their place in the standings. Teap Vathanak was the hero for Naga Corp when he scored six goals in the one-sided encounter (12th, 23rd, 39th, 62nd, 68th and 89th minute). The other goal scorers were Nwaodika Ike Chukwu (5th, 44th,45th and 81st), Ngeng Dipita Herve Ernest (32nd,50th,59th and 71st minute), Sun Sam Prathna (41st and 70th minute) and a goal each from Meas Channa (64th), Neang Chenla (78th) and Un Sothara (87th). In the only other match of the weekend, Royal Cambodian Army Forces FC scored a slim 1-0 win over Build Bright University FC to strengthen their place in mid-table.
