PETALING JAYA (20 Feb 2020) – In a landmark development, the FA of Malaysia (FAM) have announced that three women referees have been chosen to officiate matches in the Malaysian League 2020.
The three are referees Rita Gani and Nurul Ain Izatty Zainal alongside assistant referee Nur Akmal Anuar.
“The number of women referees in the country can be considered as being small. So we hope that through this move to allow the trio to officiate at Super League and Premier League matches, it will inspire other women to go into refereeing,” said FAM President Datuk Haji Hamidin Haji Mohd Amin.
“The three officials that we have selected are all experienced with Rita and Nur Akmal being a FIFA Referee and Assistant FIFA Referee respectively. Nurul Ain has done well in domestic competitions like the annual Tun Sharifah Rodziah Cup.
“They had already officiated matches involving men in the President’s Cup and also Youth Cup competitions in these last few years.
“So 2020 will be an important year for them where they will have to raise their level to officiate matches in the Super League, Premier League, FA Cup and also the Malaysia Cup.”
