HANOI (12 Sept 2010) – There’s only three days left to the official draw of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2010 – and for both hosts Vietnam and Indonesia, the sense of anticipation can already be felt in both cities.
The Sheraton Hotel in Hanoi will be the venue as teams will find out on 15 September where exactly they will be playing and just who they will be up against. For Vietnam, they will be looking for a favourable draw whereby they can gain some measure of advantage to defend the crown they won for the first time two years ago. While for Indonesia, they will be hoping that their home advantage can turn into a fabulous run as they chase their first ever ASEAN crown. Following the introduction of a preliminary qualifying competition, six teams have already qualified for the main competition in December and they are Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Myanmar and Malaysia. The remaining two slots will be filled by the top two teams from the qualifying competition which will be played in Laos in October. The five teams involved in the qualifying round of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2010 are hosts Laos, Cambodia, Timor Leste and the Philippines while Brunei’s involvement in the qualifying round will depend on whether they can get a late reprieve from FIFA following their suspension earlier. With teams across the region already getting into the groove of moulding their squad in the last several weeks, the draw result of the draw will give the team more shape and also allow them to build the momentum in the next few months. For sure, the sense of excitement and anticipation for AFF’s blue riband event will build from here on. |
