HANOI (26 Jan 2014) – Thanh Hoa have taken the surprise lead in the V-League after picking up two wins from three matches played thus far in the new season.
The side which finished fifth at the end of the 2013 season, scored a morale-boosting win when they edged former champions Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) 2-1 at the Vinh Stadium this week.
Nguyen Xuan Thanh and Danny van Bakel were on target for Thanh Hoa while Le The Cuong pulled back a goal late in the second half for SLNA.
Elsewhere on the weekend, another former champions SHB Da Nang had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Dong Nai while Dong Tam Long An also had to share points with Hoang Anh Gia Lai.
Defending champions Hanoi T&T fell 3-1 to Ninh Binh as Quang Nam were held 1-1 by Hai Phong, and Binh Duong tied 0-0 by Quang Ninh Coal.
