CHIANGMAI (24 Jan 2013) – Thailand’s hope of winning the King’s Cup this year was denied when they fell to a 3-1 loss to Finland last night at the 700th Anniversary Stadium (pix) in Chiangmai.
Two goals from Mikko Sumusalo (5th minute) and Mikael Forsell (13th) in the first fifteen minutes of the game put Thailand under enormous pressure in front of their home fans.
And even though the Thais did pull a goal back off Narubodin Weerawatnodom in the 68th minute, Finland made sure of the win and a place in the final with their third goal of the game through Forsell’s second strike two minutes to the end.
In the meantime, Sweden will take on Finland in the final of the King’s Cup this year when they beat DPR Korea 4-1 on penalties in the game played earlier.
The score at the end of regulation was 1-1 – with Hong Kum Song’s 48th minute lead for DPR Korea being cancelled out by Erton Fejzullahu barely eight minutes later.
