BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (March 10, 2007) – Defending champion Thailand will take on Myanmar in the final of the Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy on Monday after both teams emerged victorious in their respective semi final ties tonight.
Thailand showed their desire to win their second title in two years when they overwhelmed Cambodia 10-1 while for Myanmar, they had to fight tooth and nail before emerging 2-0 winners over Malaysia. The score in the first half of the first semi-finals was 3-1 in favour of Thailand who took an early lead through Phonlawut Donehui in the third minute before Chan Chaya drew level for Cambodia in the 20th minute. However, Anawin Jujeen (38th) and Wisoot Bunpeng (42nd) restored the advantage for the Thais as they head into the dressing room on a confident note. The second half was all Thailand as Wisoot (46th and 57th), Naruphol Ar-Romsawa (53rd), Choklap Nilsang (55th), Anawin (66th), Sakarin Chanyotha (73rd) and Chainarong Tatong (79th) all got their name on the score sheet for the comprehensive victory. On the other hand, Myanmar had two quick goals within a space of just six minutes to thank for their second final in two years when Aung Myo Thant and Si Thu Than struck home in the 21st and 27th minute respectively.
