BANGKOK (Dec 27, 2007) – Thailand will take on Iraq in the final of the 38th King’s Cup which will be played at the Stadium Rajamangala this Sunday.
This follows hosts Thailand’s superb 1-0 win over North Korea and Iraq’s 3-1 victory Uzbekistan in the in the final match of the preliminary round of the competition.
Thailand, who had needed a last gasp own goal to beat Iraq earlier, were again a shade off colour in the first half and where it needed a strike from Phetphun Patiparn in the 54th minute to give them the lead for what turned out to be the winner afterwards.
Iraq fared no better in the first fourty-five and only got things going after the break for Ahmad Salah Alwan to score in the 58th minute and then Ibrahim in the 65th minute for a 2-0 lead.
Pavel Solomin then pulled a goal back for the Uzbeks with a penalty conversion three minutes later before Zaki put the game beyond Uzbekistan’s reach with the final goal of the game in the 78th minute.
