BANGKOK (31 Oct 2008) – The scoreless draw last night between hosts Vietnam and DPR Korea at the My Dinh Stadium has just put Thailand in the driver’s seat of the T&T Cup this year.
The Thais as well as Vietnam are using the T&T Cup in Hanoi as part of their tune-up for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2008 which will be held in two host cities of Bangkok and Jakarta. The T&T Cup has been reduced to just three participating teams following the withdrawal of defending champions Uzbekistan. And last night, both DPR Korea and Vietnam were in need of a win to make sure that they have a fighting chance of preventing Thailand from winning the overall crown. But with the scoreless draw, DPR Korea are rooted at the bottom of the standings with just one point from two matches while Vietnam picked up their first point in the competition last night. The hosts will now need to beat Thailand – currently at the top of the table with three points following their 1-0 win over DPR Korea in their first game – to emerge champions of this year’s meet. Thailand head coach Peter Reid said that there will be changes to the team’s line-up for their match against Vietnam tomorrow. He said that while the players got the day off yesterday, the team is generally in good spirit following their 1-0 win over DPR Korea in the opening game of the T&T Cup on Tuesday. “We will probably make some team changes,” said Reid. “We need the experienced players to take on Vietnam.” The T&T Cup was formerly known as the Agribank Cup. |
