BANGKOK (27 Jan 2013) – Thailand avoided the wooden spoon tag in the King’s Cup last night when their 2-2 draw earned them the joint-third position with DPR Korea in the King’s Cup this year.
Striker Teerathep Winothai gave Thailand the lead in the 26th minute when he converted a penalty before DPR Korea equalised in the 58th minute off Jo Kwang’s volley.
Midfielder Datsakorn Thonglao then drove in a free kick not too long afterwards for Thailand to regain the lead as DPR Korea then pulled level for the second time on the night through Pak Yon Il in the 79th minute.
In the meantime, Sweden won the 42nd King’s Cup after beating Finland 3-0 in the final.
The Swedes went in front after just 22 minutes from Tobias Hysen’s header to be followed by two further goals from substitute Robin Quaison in the 72nd minute and captain Anders Svensson a minute to the end.
