NAKHON RATCHASIMA (27 August 2012) – Thailand put up a much better performance to close the gap on two-times World Champions Spain with a 6-4 defeat in the second and final friendly match in Nakhon Ratchasima last night.
In the first friendly game that was played three days earlier in Bangkok, the hosts failed to count on their home advantage as they tamely went down 8-0.
But this time round, Thailand were a lot more confident and did not let Spain the full run of the court despite them scoring two early goals through Alex (4th minute) and then Fernando (5th minute).
Jirawat Sornwichian then pulled a goal back for the Thais in the seventh minute as Fernando then added another goal in the 17th minute for the score to stand at 3-1 at the break.
Spain started strongly in the second half for Gaysus (23rd minute) and then Fernando to complete his hat-trick with his third strike four minutes later.
With the score at 5-1 for Spain, the hosts fought back with two quick goals from Na-Tee Thusiri (29th minute) and then Suphawut Thuenklang (30th minute) to narrow the lead.
But Spain were just too slick as they then regained their three-goal advantage with the fourth goal from Fernando (35th minute) before Suphawut then grabbed his second of the evening a minute to the end for the final scoreline.
The two-match against Spain was arranged as part of the festivities for the official draw of the FIFA Futsal World Cup this week.
