BANGKOK (6 August 2014) – Datuk Worawi Makudi, the president of the FA of Thailand (FAT) is cautious of the team’s chances in what is perennially termed as the Group of Death in the AFF Suzuki Cup 2014.
Following the official draw in Hanoi yesterday Thailand – three times ASEAN champions – have drawn in Group B defending champions Singapore, 2010 winners Malaysia and also the winning team from the qualifiers in Laos.
All matches will be played at the 55,000 capacity Sports Hub in Singapore.
“The standard of football in Southeast Asian has improved a lot and all the teams now have practically the same standard,” said worawi. “Therefore, we have to prepare our team well and must not underestimate anyone.
“To play in Singapore will be good for us because we have many Thai workers in Singapore and they are ready to come and support our team.”
Group A on the other hand will see the 2008 champions Vietnam taking on the Philippines, Indonesia and the runners-up team from the qualifying round.
