THAILAND BEAT IRAQ IN FRIENDLY

BANGKOK (31 May 2008) – Thailand stepped up a gear for their 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign when they beat Asian champions Iraq 2-1 in a friendly which was played at the Stadium Rajamangala.

The Asean side put on an impressive display to restrict the Asian powerhouse as
Teerathep Winothai and Teerasil Dangda were on target for the home team.

Iraqi midfielder Nashat Akram pulled a goal back in the closing stages of the game through a superbly taken free-kick for the final score line.

The game was a warm-up game for Thailand before the World Cup Asian qualifying round.

Thailand will take on Bahrain on June 2 while Iraq will meet Australia.
