BANGKOK (31 May 2008) – Thailand stepped up a gear for their 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign when they beat Asian champions Iraq 2-1 in a friendly which was played at the Stadium Rajamangala.
The Asean side put on an impressive display to restrict the Asian powerhouse as Iraqi midfielder Nashat Akram pulled a goal back in the closing stages of the game through a superbly taken free-kick for the final score line. The game was a warm-up game for Thailand before the World Cup Asian qualifying round. Thailand will take on Bahrain on June 2 while Iraq will meet Australia. |
