BANGKOK (10 July 2009) – ASEAN powerhouse Thailand and Vietnam made the 2010 AFC Women’s Asian Cup when they scored resounding victories in their final group matches.
Thailand thrashed Iran with a complete 8-1 beating in their final Group B match at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok while Vietnam blanked Hong Kong 7-0 at the Thang Long Sports Centre in Ho Chi Minh City to take Group C. In the one-sided affair at the Rajamangala Stadium, Nisa Romyen blasted in a hat-trick (21st, 48th and 52nd minute) while Anusara Maicharoen contributed a brace with goals in the 36th and 44th minute. The other goals for Thailand were scored by Chitawan Chawong (14th minute), Chanpen Sriserm (69th) and Pisamai Sornsai (90th) while Iran’s lone goal of the game came off Fereste Karemee in the 45th minute. The win was Thailand’s second after demolishing Uzbekistan 6-1 in their opening group game. In the meantime in Ho Chi Minh City, Do Thi Ngoc Cham (10th, 45th and 70th minute) scored a hat-trick in Vietnam’s 7-0 victory over Hong Kong at the Thanh Long Sports Centre. Vietnam’s other goals were scored by Van Thi Thanh who scored a brace (8th and 22nd minute) with Doan Thi Kim Chi (56th minute) and Nguyen Thi Muon (86th minute) contributing the other goals. In their first match of the group, Vietnam had beaten basement side Kyrgyzstan 10-1. With the win, Vietnam and Thailand will join China, North Korea, Australia, South Korea and Japan in next year’s eight-team finals from 19-30 May 2010 at a yet to be decided venue. The final team to make the finals will come from Group A where another ASEAN member Myanmar will open their campaign against hosts Chinese Taipei and Jordan in Hsinying City.
