PHUKET (31 August 2014) – Thailand Under-23 team showed their seriousness to put up a strong showing for the Asian Games next month when they pulverized their counterparts from Myanmar 8-1 in a friendly that was played at the Surakul Stadium here tonight.
The team under chief coach Kiatisak Senamuang began strongly when Chonburi forward Nurul Sriyankem gave them the lead after just eight minutes.
But Myanmar fought back with the equalizer just three minutes through Adet Aung.
Playing at home gave the Thais all the confidence they needed to control the pace of the game and it did not take them long to terrorize the opposing defenders which in the 17th minute gave up a penalty.
Swiss-Thai Charyl Chappuis did not disappoint from the spot as the home team then ended the first half 3-1 on top when Narubadin Weerawatnodom blasted home.
The second half was all Thailand’s as Kroekrit Tawikan (54th minute), Chanathip Songkrasin (61st), Pinyo Inpinit (72nd), Chananan Pombupha 80th) and another from Chappuis completed the rout.
The team is being prepared for the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea on 19 September to 4 October.
Thailand have been placed in Group E against Maldives, Timor Leste and Indonesia.
