HO CHI MINH CITY (1 Dec 2017) – Thai Son Nam picked up their first ever National Futsal Cup when they beat defending champions Hai Phuong Nam Phu Nhuan 2-1 in the penalty shoot-out in the final at the Rạch Mieu Gymnasium.
Hai Phuong had won the inaugural title in 2015.
With a handful of internationals in their midst who played at the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Colombia, Thai Son Nam were always going to be a handful as they pushed Hai Phuong into defensive mode.
The score at the end of an exhilarating first half was 1-0 to Thai Son Nam when Phạm Duc Hoa fired in a low shot in the 19th minute.
But Hai Puong did not give up and they eventually got the equaliser in the 38th minute through Thanh Tuan.
In the shootout, Thai Son Nam held their nerves to win 2-1.
The National Futsal Cup win was Thai Son Nam’s second after winning the National Championship in March 2016.
