BANGKOK (7 Sept 2012) – Thai-American Anthony Ampaipitakwong has been called to the national team under chief coach Winfried Schaefer as they gear up for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012 later this year.
It is the first call-up for the Buriram United midfielder as the three-times ASEAN champions begin their preparation by taking on Laos in a friendly on 12 September.
“I am very excited to get an opportunity to play for the national team. I am looking forward to it. I want to play as playmaker or attacking midfielder like I do at Buriram,” added Anthony, who had previously played for San Jose Earthquake in the Major League Soccer (MLS).
Thailand will be hosting Group A of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012 where they will be up against Vietnam, the Philippines and the winning team from the AFF Suzuki Cup qualifiers in October.
