PETALING JAYA (29 July 2014) – Datuk Ong Kim Swee, the chief coach of the Malaysian Under-23 team, will only have ten days to whip up a squad capable of carrying Malaysia’s challenge for the ASIAN Games in Incheon, South Korea in September.
Kim Swee indicated this week that the plan is to have 12 players from the
Harimau Muda A team currently playing in Queensland, Australia alongside 13 players from the Malaysian Super League and also the Premier League.
“The problem is that I can only get the players when the Malaysia Cup takes a break which is on 3 September,” said Kim Swee.
“With the limited time, I plan to play against a local side on 6 September before leaving for China to play against the Chinese U23 team in Qingdao (on 10 September).
“Time will be a factor as we look to combine all the players together including the several over-aged players.”
The team has been set the target of at least qualifying into the second round of the meet.
