SINGAPORE (8 April 2013) – Tanjong Pagar United moved up to third in the Singapore S-League as DPMM FC tasted their first defeat of the season at home at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium on the weekend.
A solitary strike from S-League’s top scorer Monsef Zerka in the 19th minute separated the two sides as Tanjong Pagar picked up their third win of the season from six matches played thus far.
“All the guys did their best, worked hard together, and the result was because of our strong mentality. We work as a group,” said the 31-year-old Zerka after the match. “We’re not targeting a top-three finish, what’s important is that we enjoy playing together.”
The only blot on what would have been a grand night for Tanjong Pagar was the second yellow card on midfielder Asraf Rashid for a rash challenge on Portuguese striker Joao Moreira.
“I think Tanjong Pagar are a good team but we didn’t deserve to lose,” said DPMM FC head coach Vjeran Simunic afterwards.
“They had three very good strikers. Zerka, Frenchmen Ishmael Benahmed and Kamel Ramdani, and we needed Ricardo Tales’ experience so it wouldn’t have been 2-0.”
