PHNOM PENH (22 July 2013) – Svay Rieng FC denied Boeung Ket Rubber Field their second Metfone Cambodia League (MCL) crown in two years when they beat the latter 1-0 in the final game of the season last night.
Boeung Ket who has been leading the standings all season long, stuttered towards the closing stages of the league and by the time of the final game, were losing focus and steam.
For Svay Rieng playing catch-up was just the right motivation and by the time of the final game of the season, were all psyched up to steal the crown from under Boeung Ket.
And after some sustained pressure, a slip up on the part of Boeung Ket with just five minutes remaining of the first half, allowed Cambodian international Khoun Laboravy to slip in the only goal of the game.
With the win, Svay Rieng scooped up 58 million Riels (USD 14,300) while Boeung Ket picked up 48 million Riels (USD 11,900) and Phnom Penh taking 36 million Riels (USD 8,900) for coming in third.
Svay Rieng also grabbed the title for Best Coach in Sam Vandet, Best Goalkeeper in Am Sovannarath as well as Khuon Laboravy winning the Best Player and also Top Scorer awards.
