PHNOM PENH (4 Feb 2013) – Svay Rieng FC began their title defence in the Metfone Cambodia League in earnest when they thumped newcomers Albirex Niigata 6-2 at the Old Stadium.
With just that one goal in the first half from Kazuki Tatsuta, Svay Rieng then accelerated in the second to score five more goals for their first three points of the season.
Elsewhere, Ministry of National Defence held Phnom Penh Crown 1-1 at the National Olympic Stadium while TriAsia Phnom Penh stunned Boeung Ket 1-0.
Kouch Dani had given TriAsia the lead in the 44th minute before Dutch striker Elroy van der Hooft gave Boeung Ket the equaliser barely a minute later.
But in the 75th minute, Sung Vireak found the back of the net to give TriAsia their first win of the new season.
In the meantime, Western University edged Asia Europe University 3-1 as Naga Corp were held to a 0-0 draw by Kirivong Sok Sen Chey.
