SINGAPORE (2 June 2008) – A brace from striker Oh Ddog Yi and another from captain Yun Bo Young gave the Super Reds an easy 3-1 win victory over the Young Lions.
Young Lions midfielder Gabriel Quak scored the consolation goal in the 74th minute as the Super Reds stamped their domination right from the start. In the ninth minute, a move started by midfielder Jung Young Chun was finely finished by striker Oh, who tapped the ball in from six yards out. Ten minutes later, a low cross from Yun Bo found Oh, who struck the ball past Jasper from an acute angle with his left foot for the second goal of the game. The loss of influential Young Lions midfielder Hariss Harun to an ankle injury was capitalised by the Super Reds when Seo Su Jong picked up a clearance for Yun Bo to unleash an unstoppable drive for them to go 3-0 up. The Young Lions found their rhythm in the second half and in the 74th minute, a cross from Daniel allowed Gabriel Quak to let loose a shot which sizzled past Super Reds custodian Kang Su Ho for the score to stand at 3-1. “The players are the ones playing the game and I am just doing my job in pushing them to realize their potential,” said Super Reds head coach Jeon Kyeong Joon. Replied V. Sundramoorthy, the head coach for the Young Lions: “In the first half, we let them (Super Reds) dominate, gain most of the possession and rule “the house”. Technique-wise, they are superb. We just couldn’t close them down quickly. “But as the game wore on you can see that they (Super Reds) were tiring so we managed to get back into the game. Credit to the boys, we managed to put up a fight in the second half.” CURRENT 2008 NTUC INCOME – YEO’S S.LEAGUE TABLE 1. SAFFC 35pts (+25) 2. SUPER REDS 35pts (+16) 3. HOME UNITED 29pts (+22) 4.
