PETALING JAYA (17 Nov 2008) – The 15,500-capacity Supachalasai Stadium is back as the alternate stadium for Group B of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2008 next month.
This follows the AFF Suzuki Cup 2008 workshop which was held yesterday for the eight teams which will be battling it out next month in the host cities of Jakarta and Bangkok. Dato’ Worawi Makudi, the president of the FA of Thailand (FAT) confirmed that Supachalasai Stadium is back. “The Supachalasai Stadium will replaced the Thai-Army Stadium as the alternate stadium for the final Group B match ((between Vietnam and Loas on 10 Dec 2008),” said Dato’ Worawi. In the meantime at the workshop prior to the 6th meeting of the AFF (Asean Football Federation) Council for session 2007/2011 yesterday, the eight qualified teams were given a briefing of their obligation to the biennial championship. The teams in Group A which will be based in Jakarta are hosts Indonesia, Singapore, Myanmar and Cambodia. In Group B which will be based in Bangkok are hosts Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Laos. The main stadium for Bangkok will be the 65,000 capacity Rajamangala Stadium with the Thai FA nominating four training grounds and they are the Thai-Army Stadium, the Public Health Ministry Stadium, the RBAC Stadium and the SAT Field. In the meantime in Jakarta, the main stadium will be the 80,000-capacity Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, with the alternate being the Jalak Harupat Stadium which has a capacity of 36,000. The training venues in Jakarta are the Lebak Bulus Stadium, the Senayan Training Ground C and the Sumantri Brojonegoro Stadium. The team manager’s meeting in Jakarta will be held on 4 Dec 2008 while in Bangkok, it will be on the 5 Dec 2008 – a day before the first match at each venue. The official media hotel for Bangkok is Maxx Hotel while for Jakarta, it is the Century Athlete Hotel. |
