KUALA LUMPUR (22 May 2019) – The former Sultan of Pahang, Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah ibni Al Marhum Sultan Abu Bakar Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mu’adzam Shah, passed away this morning at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur. He was 88.
Sultan Ahmad’s eldest son is the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
Sultan Ahmad was the former President of the Asean Football Federation (2011 to 2019).
He was also the President of the Asian Football Confederation (1994 to 2002) and Football Association of Malaysia (1984 to 2014)
Sultan Ahmad served as the Sultan of Pahang from 1974 until Jan 15 this year when he abdicated due to ill health. He was the seventh Yang di-Pertuan Agong from April 1979 to April 1984.
Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail made the announcement through a media statement. “With profound grief and sadness, I hereby announce the death of Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Ahmad Shah Sultan Abu Bakar on the morning of Wednesday, May 22, which is also the 17th day of Ramadan 1440 Hijrah.”
“Hence, I call on all the people to pray for the soul of Paduka Ayahanda to be blessed by Allah and placed among the martyrs.”
Sultan Ahmad had been ill for some time.
