MANILA (August 14, 2007) – The Philippines Women Football team scored two commanding performances in their recent Tour of Europe.
The team – comprising of players under the age of 14-years-old – were the losing finalist at the Costa Blanca Cup in Benidorm, Spain before finishing as among the top 16 teams in the 2007 Gothia World Youth Cup held in Goteborg, Sweden. They trained for three months in Spain before taking part in the Costa Blanca Cup in Benidorm where they were denied the overall title after losing 2-0 in the final. Represented by the Makati Football Club, the Philippines football team is led by Milka Romero, a striker from St. Pedro Poveda College, who had also played for the Stanford team in San Francisco last year. In the 2007 Gothia World Youth Cup in Goteborg, the young girls put up perhaps their best performance in the 25-year history of the event to be among the top 16 out of 140 participating teams.
