PETALING JAYA (27 March 2016) – Frank Bernhart, the chief coach of the Malaysian Under-22 team, said that the team still has a long way to go in spite of the positive results in their first two friendly matches this week.
The Malaysian juniors beat their Philippines counterparts 4-1 in their first friendly on Thursday before holding the Nepal national team to a 1-1 draw.
“I don’ think that we should read too much into the results of the friendly matches this week,” said the German.
“We only had a few days with the players and they seem to understand the tactics that we are trying to implement during practice. That is important, the philosophy.
“When we made the changes in the second half, the team’s tempo suffered a little and this is something which we need to look into although we have capable players in every positions.”
Malaysia will be playing hosts to the SEA Games in 2017.
