BANGKOK (23 Jan 2014) – Regardless of the state of emergency that has been declared in Thailand, the Thai Premier League (TPL) 2014 will begin on 22 February as scheduled.
TPL chairman Ong-arj Kosinkha admitted that while the state of emergency will affect the number of spectators considering that the elections will also be held in the same month, there is just no recourse to change the date of Thailand’s main football event.
“We cannot postpone the start of the new season,” stated Ong-arj.
The first matchday of the new TPL season will see title-holder Buriram United hosting Songkhla while fierce rival Muang Thong United will also be at home against Chainat.
