SINGAPORE (15 Nov 2014) – Bernd Stange, the head coach of defending AFF Suzuki Cup champions Singapore, is pleased with the team after their 2-0 win over Laos.
Stange said that the win was just what he wanted as he looks to keep up the momentum for the main event next week.
“Well deserved win for Singapore, 2-0 is exactly what we wanted,” Stange said. “The most important thing is that we have a clean sheet. That is very important for us to take confidence from this match.
“Especially how we played in this first half, it looks good. I don’t overestimate this result against Laos, but it is a good way to take confidence for the last ten days. But we must also remember that Laos are a team that qualified for the AFF Cup group stage, so they are not a ‘passenger’ team.”
While Stange was pleased with how his side carried out his instruction to play high-speed football, he stressed that his team cannot dwell too much on the result at the same time.
Instead, the German is now looking to the next friendly match against Cambodia, which will be played on Monday.
“This result is nothing else than preparation, a test match for us to see all players. We have no injuries, it is a good sign.
“It will be good to get another good win against Cambodia. We have to dominate the game, now we are back on our level and I think we can manage something.”
Singapore will take on Cambodia in the final preparation match before AFF Suzuki Cup on 17 November, 8pm at Yishun Stadium.
