MANILA (14 June 2013) – Stallions FC have emerged as the champions of the United Football League (UFL) 2013 when nearest rivals Global FC slipped up last night to lose 3-2 to Kaya at the Emperador Stadium.
The loss for defending champions Global meant that Stallions are safe at the top of the standings with a six point advantage even though the former still has a game in hand to the end of the season.
Sudanese striker Izzo El-Habbib had given Global the best of start with the lead, just nine minutes in before doubling the advantage with the second goal in the 35th minute.
But Kaya were not about to give up as Chris Greatwich struck in a missed penalty before Junior Muñoz put both teams on level terms in the 56th minute.
An own goal ten minutes to the end from Carli de Murga gave Kaya the well-deserved victory.
“We went two goals down again and I thought to myself, ‘surely, it can’t happen again’,” said Kaya coach David Perkovic. “But when we got that penalty, I thought it was what we needed.
“One thing we were good at in both games was we didn’t give up. We didn’t think for a minute that we were going to lose. We didn’t panic and we got rewarded for it.”
