SINGAPORE (May 31, 2007) – The match between the Singapore Under-23 and the Malaysian Olympic squad ended in a 2-2 draw last night at the Jurong West Stadium.
It was the visitors who drew first blood when they scored twice within a space of four minutes through Norshahrul Idlan (21st minute) and Azrul Ahmad (25th minute). But several changes later for the Malaysian side allowed Singapore to draw level when they scored a goal in each half through Fazrul Nawaz (38th minute) and Khairul Amri (65th minute). “I am satisfied with the performance especially when it is considered that we left quite a few of the older players back home due to domestic commitment,” said Malaysian head coach B. Sathiananthan (pic) afterwards. “There were two 18-year-olds who played and they fitted in well.” While the Malaysia Olympic squad look to play in their final Group B match of the Beijing Olympic 2008 qualifiers against Japan next week, the Singapore Under-23 will be playing against the Indonesia Under-23 team in Jakarta on June 3.
