JAKARTA (Jan 14, 2008) – Sriwijaya FC took the crown in the Copa Dji Sam Soe 2007/2008 when they beat Persipura Jayapura 3-1 on penalties in the final which was played at the Stadium Utama Gelora Bung Karno last night.
The score at the end of regulation was 1-1 after Persipura’s early sixth minute goal off Ernest Jeremiah was cancelled out by Keith Kayamba in the 73rd minute. “I am very proud of this achievement where the hardwork of the players have paid dividend,” said Sriwijaya FC’s Rahmad Darmawan, whose team made sure of the win when Keith Kayamba, Zah Rahan and Obiora converted their chances. The three players who missed for Persipura are captain Edward Ivakdalam, Paulo Rumere and Alberto. In the meantime, Persija Jakarta emerged third in the Copa Dji Sam Soe 2007 when they beat Pelita Purwakarta 2-1 in the play-off match. In front of more than 40,000 fans, Persija Jakarta scored in each half of the game through Aliyudin (32nd minute) and Ruben Ceko (79th) for the win. Persija Purwakarta’s only goal of the game came in the 56th minute off Aldolfo de Souza. International striker Bambang Pamungkas was chosen as the best player for Copa Dji Sam Soe 2007/2008 while the top goal scorer went to Alberto Goncalves da Silva with six goals. |
