HO CHI MINH CITY (20 Dec 2011) – Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) scooped up their fourth Super Cup crown this week with goalkeeper Nguyen Viet Nam saving three penalties for the team’s 4-2 win over Navibank Sai Gon at the Vinh Stadium.
“It was a difficult match for us because Navibank Sai Gon played strongly and were determined to take the Cup. I had to encourage my players to play their best constantly,” said SLNA chief coach Nguyen Huu Thang.
“Don’t worry about our new foreigners. They still need time to integrate with the rest of the players. I believe that in the new season they will play well. Our victory today is a strong push in our upcoming title defence.”
The score at the end of regulation was 1-1 with SLNA’s goal off substitute Nguyen Hong Viet in the 53rd minute begin cancelled out by Luong Van Duoc Em ten minutes later.
