SLIM WIN FOR NAGA CORP; PHNOM PENH COMFORTABLE ON TOP

PHNOM PENH (27 July 2011) – Naga Corp FC kept chase at the top of the Metfone Cambodia League with a slim 2-1 win Kirivong Sok Sen Chey FC as leaders Phnom Penh Crown FC maintained their four-point lead with another stunning performance to blast strugglers Chhlam Samut 5-3 at the National Olympic Stadium.

Following the deadlock in the first half, former champions Naga found themselves trailing by a goal just two minutes after the restart when Song Dara gave the lead to Kirivong.

But a three-minute blitz from Oiboh Julius (62^nd minute) and Teab Vatanak (65^th minute) allowed Naga Corp to win the tie 2-1 and picked up the full three points.

In the meantime, Phnom Penh Crown did not go through such drama as they stamped their authority with two goals in the first half – Obadin Odion Anthony (20^th minute) and Sun Sophanha (36^th minute) – before completing their win with further goals from Chan Chaya (78^th), Sok Pheng (80^th) and Njoku Kingsley Metu (87^th).

Chhlam Samut did get a say edgewise through Ayodel Esilua (38^th minute), Sanny Dauda (63^rd) and Abola Bode (73^rd) for their eighth defeat in 12 matches.

Basement side Rithisen tried hard to get out of the zone but after holding National Police scoreless in the first half, they failed to prevent Sim Vutha from scoring the only goal in the game with just seven minutes left on the clock.

With the win, National Police improved to fifth while Rithisen are still scoreless after 12 matches.

Elsewhere saw National Defense Ministry FC being held to a 2-2 draw by Preah Khan Reach FC while Build Bright United strengthened their position in the top half of the table with a comprehensive 3-0 beating of Prek Pra Keila FC.
