SINGAPORE (May 29, 2007) – The Singapore Under-23 side will be taking on the Malaysian Olympic squad tomorrow night as part of their preparation for the SEA Games at the end of the year.
The young side from Singapore which recently named Home United’s Juma’at Jantan and 20-year-old forward Goh Swee Swee as part of their 21-man squad will take on the Under-21 side from Malaysia at the Jurong West Stadium. Admission for the match is free. “Basically, we are going to let everybody get a run-out and watch them perform,” said coach V. Sundramoorthy. “We want to have a look at all the players, especially the key ones who are coming from the clubs. We’ve gathered news that they’re getting plenty of playing time at the clubs and that’s a good thing because young players improve with games. “What we have to do on our part is then to bring them together and ensure that they maintain and strengthen their understanding of one another. This will help them gel into a performing unit for the SEA Games. “That is the objective for us – to build the SEA Games squad and we are focusing 100% of our attention right now towards that goal. There is still time for those not in this squad to make the SEA Games cut but the ones here will have an early chance to impress.” Apart from the match against the Malaysian side, the Young Lions will also be playing against the Indonesia Under-23 team in Jakarta on June 3.
