SINGAPORE (24 June 2012) – The Singapore U22 squad will have a lot of tweaking to do following their 4-2 loss to the Young Lions in a friendly this week. There are only two weeks left to their participation in the qualifying round of the AFC Under-22 Asian Cup that will be held in Pekanbaru, Indonesia.
Both teams were cautious at the start where in the first half, they rarely ventured too far as the score stood scoreless at the half. But the Young Lions were quicker into the second half with the influential Syafiq Zainal scoring a hat-trick and providing the assist with the fourth goal.
The Singapore U22 team under Mike Wong got their two goals through midfielder Raihan Rahman’s freekick and also Faris Ramli. The team will play two more friendlies against Hougang United FC and the Singapore Armed Forces FC, before departing to Pekanbaru.
Singapore are in Group E of the qualifiers against hosts Indonesia, Australia, Japan, Macau and Timor Leste.
