YANGON (11 Sept 2012) – Singapore recovered from their mid-week defeat to hold Myanmar to a 1-1 draw this evening at the Youth Training Centre in Thuwunna as Brunei fell to a 2-0 loss to Pos Malaysia FC in their latest friendly match in Kuala Lumpur.
The match in Yangon was evenly contested in the first half as both teams failed to find the back of the net. But with the pep talk during the break, Singapore came alive in the 54th minute for Agu Casimir to find the space and time for the lead.
But the homesters fought back late in the game for Davin Htan to slammed in the equaliser in the 81st minute before the match was marred by the sending off of Shaiful Esah two minutes to the end.
In the meantime, Brunei fell to a 2-0 loss to Pos Malaysia FC – just a few days after holding a second string Malaysian Super League champions Kelantan side to a 1-1 draw.
“The team just got back from Kelantan yesterday. They have not recovered from the game and they did not have enough rest. We lost 2-0 but it is mainly because the players have not recovered from the Kelantan game,” said Feisal Eusoff, the team manager of Brunei.
“We had a bit of mental and physical fatigue because we had not completely recovered, and that happens sometimes. We lacked a bit of accuracy in our passing and the players were unsettled in the game.”
Brunei’s next friendly match will be against Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) tomorrow.
While Singapore are already in the main draw of the AFF Suzuki Cup, both Brunei and Myanmar will be playing in the qualifiers in Yangon next month which is slated for 5-13 October 2012.
