SINGAPORE (9 Nov 2014) – Singapore fell to a 2-0 loss to Bahrain in a friendly that was played in Manama.
Singapore, which will be co-hosting the AFF Suzuki Cup this year alongside Vietnam, matched the Bahrainis for much of the game but fell to two second-half strikes from the homesters.
Ismael Latif gave the home team the lead with a well-placed shot in the 67th as Sami Al Hussaini then slammed in the corner in the 75th minute for the win.
“We were very good in the first 60 minutes; it was one of our best performances since I took over last May. If the boys could keep it up for the second half, we would have gotten something from the game, but we lost our shape a little for a 20 minute spell and that was when Bahrain punished us with a counter-attack,” said Singapore coach Bernd Stange.
“I am very pleased with our performance in the first 60 minutess, and there are many positives to take from that. If we can maintain that level for 90 minutes, we will match anybody.”
