SINGAPORE (16 August 2012) – Singapore’s ambition to put up a competitive team for the AFF Suzuki Cup later this year got off on the right note when they saw off Hong Kong 2-0 in a friendly that was played last night at the Jurong West Stadium.
At 42-years-old, veteran Aleksandar Duric showed that he is still capable of knocking in the goals when he found the net twice – the first with a header off a cross from Qiu Li in the seventh minute while the second was a through ball from Khairul Nizam in the 14th minute.
“First half, we controlled the game. Generally, we could have scored a few more goals and there are a few more things we can improve on, which would come with a few more games under our belt,” said Radojko Avramovic, the chief coach of Singapore.
“I think this team can do even better for that part, but there were some good passing, some good combinations, especially the chance Qiu Li had when he hit the bar. That was some really beautiful football.”
