BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (9 June 2009) – DPMM FC head coach Vjeran Simunic is overwhelmed with the continued form of his chargers – following the team’s 3-0 win over reigning S-League champions Singapore Armed Forces FC in a Singapore League Cup tie.
With a goal a piece from Croatian midfielder Ivan Jerkovic and striker Shahrazen Said in the first half and then the third off Abdel Hamid Berguiga allowed the Brunei side to emerge as leaders of Group A to qualify for the knock-out stage of the tournament. “I don’t know what happened to them (the players), they must have gone crazy! They ran a lot, fought a lot, they could have scored more goals,” said Simunic (pic). “They played twice as good as when we won 2-1 at home against SAF (on April 26) , and this second win is something all Bruneians should be proud of. “I am very happy with Hamid, he worked very hard for the goal. The players were all excellent. Even goalkeeper Wardun (Yussof) played wonderfully. SAF also played well, they had two good chances which hit the post.” DPPM FC’s likely opponent in the next round will probably be Geylang United FC – the probable runners-up of Group B. |
