KUALA LUMPUR (24 July 2013) –The Malaysian national team will play a total of three matches in their tour of Japan where they will begin their sojourn with a match against Shimizu S-Pulse tomorrow, before further matches against Shonan Bellmare and then Tokyo Verdy.
Currentlty placed 11th in the J-League top flight, Shimizu were the former winners of the J-League Cup, the Emperor’s Cup and also the Japanese Super Cup.
“We have to put up a better performance against Barcelona (on 10 August) and of course we need to show a better result,” said Dato Sri Subahan Kamal, the team manager of the Malaysian national team.
“Against Chelsea the other day, we made far too many mistakes and we should not have let in some of the goals that we did.”
Malaysia’s next opponent will be Shonan Bellmare on Saturday – another J-League First Division side. Currently placed 17th, Shonan won the Emperor’s Cup in 1994.
Their last opponent is Tokyo Verdy, playing in the J-League 2nd Division. They are perhaps one of the most successful clubs in Japan when they were with Kawasaki in the 90s.
Tokyo Verdy won 7 league titles (a record shared with Kashima Antlers), 5 Emperor’s Cups and also an Asian Club Championship title.
