YANGON (14 June 2018) – Shan United kept up the chase at the top of the MPT Myanmar National League 2018 when they beat former champions Yadanarbon 3-2 on the road to keep within two points of leaders Yangon United.
With Yangon United falling to an uncharacteristic 3-2 loss at home to Ayeyawady United at the Aung San Stadium, it allowed Shan to close the gap.
Following a first half deadlock, Shan turned on the power for Dway Ko Ko Chit nailed a brace with goals in the 47th and 60th minute as Christopher Chizoba then added the third goal in the 63rd minute.
Yadanarbon’s goals were scored by Win Naing Soe in the 59th minute and Win Naing Tun in the 73rd.
Shan United’s win gave them 30 points from 14 matches – two points less than Yangon, who failed to maintain their composure against Ayeyawady.
Yangon United nailed two first half goals from Sylla Sekou in the 36th minute and then Maung Maung Lwin in the 38th but the second half would turn against them.
Ayeyawady staged a second half fight back to score through Thiha Zaw in the 67th minute, Cássio Magalhães (75th) and Edubat Patrick (90th).
Elsewhere, GFA drew with Sagaing United 2-2, Zwegapin United beat Rakhine United 2-1 Hanthawaddy United drew 1-1 with Magwe and Southern Myanmar edged Myawady 3-0.
