PETALING JAYA (26 July 2009) – Selangor picked up their first ever Malaysian Super League crown last night with a commanding 5-1 thrashing of Pahang to seal the title in front of their own fans at the Shah Alam Stadium.
In the final match of the season, it was to be the visiting Pahang side that opened account through Mohd Badrul Isani in the 15th minute before Safee Sali nailed the equalizer two minutes later. From then on, it was Selangor all the way as Malaysian national captain Amri Yahyah nailed a brace (34th and 64th minute), R. Surendran (67th) and the second from Safee in the 59th minute confirmed the Klang Valley side of their crown. The loss for Pahang meant that they finished the season second from the bottom of the table although the question of whether they will be relegated for the new season will only be known next week when the FA of Malaysia (FAM) Competitions Committee meet. |
