HO CHI MINH CITY (10 Jan 2014) – A single strike from Takahiro Sekine early in the second half was enough to give Japan a 1-0 win over AS Roma and at the same time the crown in the Nutrifood Under-19 Cup at the Thong Nhat Stadium this evening.
Sekine who had found the back of the net once in Japan’s 7-0 thrashing of Vietnam two days ago, struck the winner against the Italians just three minutes into the second half.
With the full points, Japan pipped AS Roma to the title based on better goal difference, with the latter moving down to third in the final standings.
Tottenham Hotspur finished second at the table after beating hosts Vietnam 3-2.
