YANGON (14 June 2009) – Kanbawza FC from Myanmar picked up their second win in Group C of the AFC President’s Cup with an emphatic 4-2 victory over Yeedzin FC from Bhutan.
Kanbawza had earlier set aside Cambodia’s Phnom Penh Crown 4-3 in their first game of the tournament. But the side from Myanmar had to endure some harrowing moments in the game when they fell behind as early as the half hour mark after Yeedzin went 2-0 up courtesy of goals from Pema Chopel in the 10th minute and Jigme Tenzin in the 31st minute. But an own goal from Pema Rinchen in the 38th minute gave Kanbawza some respite before captain Soe Min Oo restored parity five minutes to the break. Defenders Win Min Htut and Soe Min Oo then put Kanbawza two goals in front with efforts in the 78th and 81st minutes to win their second full points. Kanbawza’s final game in this Group C will be against two-times winner of the tournament Dordoi-Dynamo of Kyrgyzstan. In the meantime, Cambodia’s Phnom Penh Crown are out of contention after falling to their second defeat in the competition – this time with a 3-1 loss to Dordoi-Dynamo. |
