BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (March 12, 2007) – Naruphol Ar-Romsawa gave defending champion Thailand their second Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy in two years with a crucial penalty conversion for them to win 5-4 over Myanmar in the shootout.
With the score tied at 0-0 at the end of regulation, Naruphol’s cool conversion in the sixth attempt and the subsequent miss by Myanmar’s Si Thu Than was enough for them to lift the crown at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas. Both teams had missed the first kick with Wisoot Bunpeng not finding the target for Thailand while Aung Myo Thant failed to give Myanmar the early lead. However, the rest of the players stepped on to the plate with Suphachai Phupha, Choklap Nilsang, Alef Pohji and Anawin Jujeen doing what is expected of them for Thailand. The scorers for Myanmar were Khin Maung Lwin, Yaza Win Thein, Kyaw Haty Oo and Moe Win for both teams to be tied at 4-4. When Thu Than muffed his shot, it was all over as Thailand went into celebration mode.
