BACOLOD CITY (6 Oct 2009) – Philippines stumbled to their second defeat in the AFC Under-16 qualifiers yesterday when they conceded a 4-1 loss to Chinese Taipei in their second match of Group E at the Panaad Stadium.
In the first match of the qualifiers, the Philippines went down 12-0 to Japan. Against Chinese Taipei, the Philippines just could not contain their speedier opponents as they let in three goals at the half. The visitors went ahead through goals from Ko Yu-Ting (7th minute), Lee Meng-Che (14th) and Shih Kun-Huei (40th). Yu-Ting then wrapped things up with his second goal of the game in the 50th minute as the Philippines scored their first goal of the game and of the tournament deep in injury time off Allen Belera. With the loss, the Philippines are rooted at the bottom of Group E and where they will face Indonesia in their next match tomorrow. Japan still lead the group when they picked up their second full points – this time with a 6-0 beating of Bangladesh. |
